The University of Nairobi has been ranked 7th in Africa and number 855 in the world according to the just released Webometrics ranking.
In Africa, the University of Nairobi led local universities followed by Makerere University at position 13, Kenyatta University is number 38 and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is 44. Overall in Africa, University of Cape Town leads in the rankings followed by the Stellenbosch University and Cairo University. The first position worldwide went to the renowned Harvard University. Over 25000 institutions of higher learning were analyzed in the ranking.
The University of Nairobi’s performance is the best result posted by any local university since the advent of web ranking in 2004. In the July 2014 ranking the University of Nairobi was first in East Africa and 9th in Africa and 907 worldwide.
The web rankings complement the government Performance Contracting ranking in which UoN has consistently maintained position one ahead of other public universities and institutions. In the last results, UoN posted an “Excellent” rank a position that has never been achieved by any public entity in the Performance Contracting exercise.
